Official dates are Friday 5/19/17 through Sunday 5/21/2017; but of course arriving/departing early or late may be acceptable. ;)

I encourage any who plan on attending to GET YOUR RESERVATIONS EARLY. Both of the two 'venues' tend to get very busy at/after Mother's Day (the weekend before this), and the "Pioneer Inn" has been busy since they opened for business with the new name a couple of months back.

What we used to call "Pine Acres", with the name changing to "Gold Country Campground and Resort" a few years back:

A number of southeastern Maggots are headed to Cali to do some canyon surfing in June. We'll settle in Palmdale for the first two nights, at least, June 2nd & 3rd. Beyond that, who knows. As of today (Dec 26), the Ramada and Hampton have had reservations placed as meetup locations.

Some will be trailering to Phoenix and then riding the remainder of the way and some will square off their tires on the way. ;-)

Come one, come all. I'd love to see some of the western contingent join us!

Email Chris Pope or on Facebook.
We have a Facebook group named "2017 West Coast Ride".

**Update**

The Marietta SME has taken on a life of its own. Somehow every year before we leave, dates get chosen and the hotel finds out without me having to do anything. Seems to be driven by people who want to get particular rooms for themselves so they reserve early.

Anyways, we are on for June 7-11, 2017. Same rates as last year. Be here or we'll talk about you in the parking lot.
--

Mark your calendars. The twenty third annual SabMag East event, the old Burr Oak SME, will be taking place in June at the Lafayette Hotel in beautiful downtown Marietta, Ohio.

The Lafayette Hotel
101 Front Street
Marietta, OH 45750

There is a block of rooms reserved for arrival on the evening of Thursday June 8 and departing on Sunday morning, June 11.

Room types and discounted group rates (out of date):
One double bed: $63
Two twin beds: $73
One queen bed: $83

Assorted fancier rooms for higher dollars. None have two beds but some have fold-out couches. There is a two-night minimum reservation.

The number to call to reserve is (740) 373-5522 or (800) 331-9336. Mention Sabmag to get into our room block and get the discount. If the room type you want isn't in the room block, but is available anyway, take it - the hotel is small and no room will be far away. If you reserve a room outside the room block, let me know, so I can get it added to our tally, and try to get you the group rates wherever you end up.

There are two restaurants on site. The Gun Room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the lounge serves lunch, dinner and drinks. Sunday brunch buffet is $9.95 until 11am, $10.95 after 11am, or you can order off the menu for about what you'd pay for comparable stuff at Bob Evans. There are some brewpubs and restaurants within easy walking distance, but mostly they're upscale - more maggot-priced eateries are a short ride away.

The hotel website is at www.lafayettehotel.com. It's currently just a placeholder, but that's an improvement over the annoying music and broken flash links they had up there a month ago. Perhaps they are planning to make it useful soon.

SMEAC 3.0 July 27-30, 2017
100 James Rd, Galway, NY

Friday- general intent is the Western ADK. Suggested route; Barkersville > Edinburg > Northville > Benson > Caroga Lake > Piseco Lake > Forest port > Old Forge > Eagle Bay > Inlet > Raquette Lake > Indian Lake > Speculator > Northville > Broad Albin

Saturday - general intent is the Eastern ADK. Suggested route; Barkersville > Fish House > Lake Luzerne-Hadley > Lake George > Ticonderoga > Elizabethtown > Lake Placid > Saranac > Tupper Lake > Newcomb > North Creek > Northville > split the Sacandaga back to Barkersville

A million variations to consider of course for individual preferances.

For those not inclined in long rides or riding at all.... Saratoga (Lake, race track, town, park or Battlefield) is 20 minutes east and there is a car friendly 45 minute route to Lake George. We are also 10 min from the Sacandaga for swimming/boating and 15 minutes from white water rafting (many companies), horse back riding, etc.

Dinner provided Thu - Sat. Breakfast provided Fri -Sun. Bring a dish to pass, beer or wine to consume.

We have more flat tent space than there will be tents or trailers. We have 3 queen and 2 single beds in 3 different rooms plus various other nooks/crannies for inflatables or cots of which we also have a few.

Bike parking in the front driveway, car and trailer parking on its left side and tenting on the right front lawn. Everything else will be set up in the rear yard and driveway.

Bonfire area (could bring a chair), garage, gameroom, spa, etc.

I know it's a SME but.... we either have a band or a band or not (long story) for Saturday night.

A commercial campground within 5 minutes has cabins and hookups. Ref. Pop's Lake Campground in Galway, NY. Tons of motels around depending how far you want to drive as none are under 20 minutes.

We will have Porta pots and two outside showers setup to supplement our bathrooms.

We are putting this out as a family friendly event as there we are in the vacation time of year and region of New York State. Besides... this has the makings of a great party!

We will be doing a roll call soon for final planning purposes. Any questions on menu support should be directed to Debbie at. Debbie.fowler@outlook.com

Cheers.

SMILE 2.0 Sab-Mag Invades Lovely Europe... Again! August 11 - 19, 2017

Our second formal European invasion originates and ends in Munich, Germany. One of those fabled trips of a LIFETIME where the SabMag US and EU family rides, eats and drinks our way across Europe!

The planned route wanders through the Alps and Dolomites. At least 5 countries, 2 notable passes and countless others. Monthly trip coordination conference calls are on-going through July. We even have a HipChat created to stay connected. Hotel and bike reservations need to be made in advance. Although most attendees have already committed, contact John for details if your late in speaking up and have a burning desire to attend. Some of the hotels might be tight and the later you decide, the tougher it will be but anything is possible. We will leave the light on for ya and order a few extra T-Shirts (shirts are only for attendee's)

Thanks... John

Southeast Ohio Fall Invasion - Sept 22 - 24, 2017

Southeast Ohio is too good to only visit once a year, so lets do it again! The main gathering location will be the Lafayette Hotel (http://www.lafayettehotel.com) in lovely downtown Marietta. I will ask for a special group rate and update as information becomes available.

Stealing KB's notes: There are two restaurants on site. The Gun Room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the lounge serves lunch, dinner and drinks. Sunday brunch buffet is $9.95 until 11am, $ 10.95 after 11am, or you can order off the menu for about what you'd pay for comparable stuff at Bob Evans. There are some brewpubs and restaurants within easy walking distance, but mostly they're upscale - more maggot-priced eateries are a short ride away.

Less high-zoot lodging can be found at the Comfort Inn down the road and the St. Mary's Hotel across the river. For those wishing to camp, Leith Run State Park is available up Ohio SR-7 about 20 miles. It offers meticulously clean camping accomodations and has been a maggot favorite for years.

Ohio is perfectly located as a gathering place between the southerners and the New Englanders, so we get a great mix of the various maggot personalities for these events. Be there or we'll ta lk about you in the parking lot!
