2012 KOTNYBB&W -

Come meet the Greenville contingent of maggots at this year's Kick off the New Year BBQ & Wrenchfest, or the KOTNYBB&W for short.

Format will be typical wrenchfest fare. Bring 'em, work on 'em and get some help from people that have done it before (hopefully). A large, indoor, heated, well-lit, shop with good tunes (aka the Man-cave) will be provided. Stuff like work benches, Steeeeeeeve's 'spensive high-zoot NoMar tire changing machine and wheel balancer, motorcycle jacks, compressor, and assorted tools will be available. The days are short this time of year and we'll be drinking beer (except for Ryder if he shows, he's more of a tequila guy and KB leans towards soft drinks, but not as much as she used to), so bedrooms and plenty of floor space are also available, with the comfiest beds going to a complicated formula involving age, distance traveled, how much we like you and whether or not you piss off The Goddess, who will be in attendance this year.

Wrenching will start in earnest Saturday morning, but brew sampling, tire-sniffing, maggot greeting and some pre-wrenching can start Friday afternoon or early evening. We'll wrap up any loose ends and shoo everybody off Sunday morning.

What is it: KOTNYBB&W
Where is it: big red mo's in Greenville, SC
When is it: February 3-5, 2012

SME 16.9 Spring Shakedown, Southern Style April 19-22, 2012

Come one, come all, and shake out the cobwebs of winter at a Spring Shakedown SME in Tellico Plains, TN, hosted by Jack & Lori Hunt. Visit the Tail of the Dragon, the Cherohala Skyway, and a host of local roads and let your tires revel in waking up for the first of many rides of the 2012 season.

Join us for a full country breakfast on Saturday morning, and a dinner of pulled pork with all the fixin's on Saturday night. You're one your own the rest of the time, and there is usually a semi-organized raid of a local restaurant for breakfast on Sunday morning for those inclined to do.

Host location:
    Hunt's Lodge Motorcycle Campground
    9555 Hwy 68
    Tellico Plains, TN 37385

SME 17.0 The Lafayette Hotel, Marietta, Ohio - June 7-10, 2012

Mark your calendars. The seventeenth annual SabMag East event, the old Burr Oak SME, will be taking place in June at the Lafayette Hotel in beautiful downtown Marietta, Ohio.

The Lafayette Hotel
101 Front Street
Marietta, OH 45750

There is a block of 24 rooms reserved for arrival on the evening of Thursday June 7 and departing on Sunday morning, June 10.

Room types and discounted group rates:
One double bed: $63
Two twin beds: $73
One queen bed: $83

Assorted fancier rooms for higher dollars. None have two beds but some have fold-out couches. There is a two-night minimum reservation.

The number to call to reserve is (740) 373-5522 or (800) 331-9336. Mention Sabmag to get into our room block and get the discount. If the room type you want isn't in the room block, but is available anyway, take it - the hotel is small and no room will be far away. If you reserve a room outside the room block, let me know, so I can get it added to our tally, and try to get you the group rates wherever you end up.

There are two restaurants on site. The Gun Room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the lounge serves lunch, dinner and drinks. Sunday brunch buffet is $9.95 until 11am, $10.95 after 11am, or you can order off the menu for about what you'd pay for comparable stuff at Bob Evans. There are some brewpubs and restaurants within easy walking distance, but mostly they're upscale - more maggot-priced eateries are a short ride away.

The hotel website is at www.lafayettehotel.com. It's currently just a placeholder, but that's an improvement over the annoying music and broken flash links they had up there a month ago. Perhaps they are planning to make it useful soon.

Typical Tellico SME events unfold - eat, ride, tell lies, that kind of thing. Okay, so the fall colors won't quite be at their peak, but there will be colors in the mountains, and do we really have to have an excuse to get together, eat, tell lies, and ride?.... I didn't think so, either...

We'll have a huge breakfast spread on Saturday and dinner on Saturday night. You're on your own for lunch because, quite frankly, most of you will be out riding anyway.

Free range style camping available, ping Lori if you'd like a bunk. If you don't want to chance having a bed upon which to lay your weary head, other places to stay can be found at http://www.huntslodge.com/Local_Accommodations.
