SabMag Polar Bear January 2-3, 2004, Withalacoochee River near Dade City, FL.
Announcing the first (and possibly only) SabMag Polar
Bear!
This is an opportunity for a Maggot get together
during a time not usually busy on the SabMag calendar.
It also gives the Florida Maggots (motto: our roads
may suck, but they suck all year) a chance to have a
LOCAL event. ;)
The event will run be Friday and Saturday, January 2
and 3. Located on the Withalacoochee River near Dade
City, FL, the event will be hosted at my uncle's
cabin. Plenty of amenities, including outhouse with
running hot water, shower, toilet, etc. I expect this
event to be camping only, but if this is a serious
problem for you, get in touch and I'll see if I can
arrange a stay on the couch or summat.
Friday's itinerary includes afternoon ride (or maybe
I'll just hand you a map), campfire, boozing, and
telling of lies.
Saturday will feature a morning ride in the frigid
Florida temperatures, as well as a BBQ around 2pm-ish,
earlier if people are hungry. I'll provide the meat,
you provide the drinks and sides. Let me know if
you're coming ASAP so I know how much stuff to get.
Camping may continue Saturday night as well if folks
are still in the mood to hang out.
I've got a fair amount of flexibility here, and can
provide more activities or whatnot, but herding
maggots is an exercise in futility. So, if there’s
something you want to know, or see, or do, just let me
kow and I'l see what I can arrange.
Contact me for directions, or Click here. Please RSVP, etc.
I'm at 813.899.9132 or Email. Hope y'all can make it, PhysicsDan
Wrenching and Drooling February 20-22, 2004 Ypsilanti, MI
The International Motorcycle Show is coming to Detroit that weekend.
We can go to the show as a group, drool on the new bikes, and spend
the rest of the weekend wrenching on sabmags. I've been upgrading my
garage; it now has an insulated door and a ceiling, so it should be
much warmer in there this year.
Contact: Katherine Becker for details.
SMEBW04 February 27 - March 7, 2004 Eustis, FL
Last year was the first SMEBW and we learned through it (and the rain).
There will be a cookout on Friday night, March 5, at my home in Eustis, FL (The Outpost).
On Saturday, March 6, a group meet at the concessions at Daytona Speedway, some lunch, and the Daytona 200 Bike Race. See www.daytonaintlspeedway.com and www.daytonachamber.com for more information, ticket prices, etc.
I have some recommended roads for riding. Contact me at Norm Lesmerises for more information. Also see [removed] for directions.
SMAZ - SabMag Arizona (Chandler, Phoenix 'burb) Weekend of April 24 & 25, 2004
Ride will be from Phoenix/Wickenburg/Prescott/Jerome and then either:
Big loop (gorilla route): 89 to Sedona/Flagstaff take the Lake Mary route to Payson and home or:
Smaller loop (tender tush route): cut across through Camp Verde to Payson and back home.
Either way, it will be a good time. Saturday night party at the Casa. For
those souls that want a little more, on Sunday we can make a run out to
Tortilla Flat to meet the local biker boyz.
We've got guest rooms and floor space for the housebroken Maggots and plenty
of yard space for those of you who aren't. If its hot, we'll be swimming,
if it's not...a fire in the outdoor fireplace, food, and beer, plenty of
beer.
For those of you that have been here before, welcome back. For those that
haven't yet, it's about time! I promise you, you will never be the same.
So...you riding with me? Contact TOWMBO for further details.
SME v8.9 Spring Shakedown, April 30-May 2, 2004, rain or shine. Burr Oak State Park, north of Athens OH on SR78.
We have a date for the eighth annual SabMag East Spring Shakedown. Mark your
calendars for the last weekend in April / first weekend in May.
The new location is going to be Burr Oak State Park. Burr Oak is on
Ohio SR 78, Glouster, Ohio, just a few miles west of the intersection
of 555 and 78. They have offered us a discounted rate, and they will
attempt to put us all our own area away from everyone else so we
don't disturb their other guests.
Our discount rate for the cabins is $124/night, with a third night
free when you pay for two nights. I vote for moving in on Thursday
and having a three-day SME. :-)
The cabins have two bedrooms each. One bedroom has a double bed and
the other has two twins, and each cabin also has one rollaway bed.
They have full linens and kitchens. They are a little smaller than
the North Bend cabins and they do not have indoor fireplaces.
However there are fire rings right outside them, so we can have our
campfire in a more convenient location.
To reserve a cabin, call (740)767-3639 and speak to Cathy, and
mention Sabmag to get the discount. You have to pay in advance for
one night to confirm your reservation, however this deposit is
refundable until 30 days before the SME.
The park also offers camping, lodge rooms, a restaurant, and deluxe
cabins. The lodge, deluxe cabins, and restaurant are clustered
together about a mile away. The camping is twelve miles away. Only
the 2br cabins are included in our group discount.
I encourage maggots who want to sleep under a roof to choose the 2br
cabins in the sabmag block, so we won't have outsiders in our midst
to get annoyed by the campfire talk and the bikes. I have already
reserved mine.
The usual Spring Shakedown warnings apply. This is an early-season event in
a climate that sees wildly divergent spring weather patterns and in terrain
that offers some of the most challenging and dangerous roads you'll ever
ride. You should be geared for cold and/or wet riding and leave any vestiges
of a competitive ego at home. As always, you should be more concerned about
what the weather will be doing between your home and the event than at the
event itself.
There is no schedule of events. Show up and ride. There will be self-guided
rides on Saturday with a highlighted master map of recommended roads
available. There will probably also be a very pointed motivational pep talk
regarding appropriate riding strategies, with the goal of avoiding
individual impacts on the collective's ability to enjoy the weekend. For
various reasons, that's all the organization that we're willing to offer.
It's worked pretty well for the past eight years, though. :^)
At some point we'll start a roster so we know
who's coming. Past years have seen a very steady attendance of 35-45 riders
so if you haven't been to a Spring Shakedown yet, it's a great opportunity
to meet some of the more notorious miscreants on this list. If we get lucky
and the weather is good, you'll have the added benefit of riding some of the
best roads in the entire country, with nearly zero traffic. Hope to see you
there.
Contact Katherine Becker if you need further information.
SMWSF04 - May 21-23 '04 (aka SabMag West Spring Fling, 2004)
This memorable event (and feast) will be at Pine Acres Resort, Pine
Grove, California, May 21-23.
Pine Acres Resort has plenty of campsites but only
a few rooms, so if ya want a room ya should grab one early. Seems last year's
room with two beds w/kitchenette was about $42/night. Last
years' route had some stunning Lake Tahoe vistas, so bring those
cameras.
Contact Ron E. if you want more
details.
SMWMD - SabMag West Memorial Day - May 29-31, 2004
Baker City, OR
Jim and I are going to have an anniversary/birthday party Memorial weekend (May 30). 10 year anniversary and 35 years old! The actual dates for the anniversary/birthday are May 21 and 22, but we didn't want to plan something on the same weekend as the Spring Fling in California. We don't really have anything planned yet except the date. We're inviting everyone, so would appreciate it if you'd post it on the SabMag calendar and I'll mention it on the list also.
Details will be posted when available. Email Penny Devlin
for more information.
SME 9.0 June 4-6, 2004 at the KOA Campgrounds in Tellico Plains, TN
Please note that this date does *not* directly conflict with any
major, known holiday. If it conflicts with National June Bug Day or
some other obscure observance, tough.
Central location is at the KOA Kampgrounds in Tellico Plains, TN.
http://www.koakampgrounds.com/where/TN/42173.htm
They have cabins furnished with mattresses, tent and RV sites, showers
& bathrooms, pool, and horseshoe pits. I believe all sites have water
and electricity. Anyone getting a cabin can also rent bedding if they
don't want to lug their own.
Other accomodations include Cherokee Campground, several fully
furnished cabins (besides Caney Creek!) less than a mile away, and
some bed & breakfasts in Tellico Plains. The next town over (about 15
min), offers a full service hotel. I'll get together all of the
lodging info I can find and post it in a week or three. I might even
get energetic and put up a webpage for it.
Plans at this point are for riding, telling lies, passing the bottle
all weekend, and massive amounts of smoked pork barbecue with fixins'
added to the mix Saturday night. Might do a beef brisket and some
chickens, too, depending on what kind of feedback I get from folks
when I ask for it.
Email Lori Lovejoy for information and details.
Accomodation information can be found here.
SMIRK - SabMag In the RocKies - June 4-6, 2004
Rex is lead dog on this, Rex King, but the basics are June 5 gathering in the Rocky Mountain House area of Alberta. Sociallizing on Friday night, a bit of riding on Saturday, mostly sight seeing as we don't have too much in the way of great roads, a good meal and more hospitality on Saturday night, we all head for points on the compass on Sunday. Or something like that.
Last I talked to Rex he was thinking of moving the gathering point to the David Thompson Resort (www.davidthompsonresort.com), which looks like a worthy place.
AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days July 16-18, 2004, Lexington, Ohio
http://www.midohio.com/sportscarcourse/events/amaweekend.asp
Takes place in Lexington Ohio. The event involves street, motorcross, and
dirt track vintage races, a HUGE swap meet, an auction, and just a ton of
bikes. There is tent camping right at the event itself, and there are
several hotels in the vicinity. There will be a large collection of
SabMaggots camping there, but a central hotel will be decided on for those
who wish to have a bed and air conditioning.
Check the SabMag Message board (http://v4honda.ironcreek.net) for updates
and information as July draws nearer. We will be sharing this event (and the
campground space) with the CX500 board members too.
http://www.cxboard.netfirms.com They're not V4's, but they're good people.
You can also contact me, Charles Smith, for more information.
The Classic Japanese Motorcycle Show this year will be held on the weekend of July 24-25th at Squaw Valley.
I will be organizing a ride on the 24th of July starting from my house
in Yuba City or from a local campground I will reserve for those who
wish. I will post a route as the CJMC Squaw Valley event gets closer.
The ride will incorporate hwy 70 through the Feather River Canyon and
either hwy 20 or hwy 89 or possibly hwy 49. The Classic Japanese
Motorcycle Show will only be a stop along the way.
For information on the CJMC event go to www.cjmc.org
There is usually camping allowed in the parking lot for those who want
to stay there.
Contact me, Shawn Speelman, as soon as you know you will attend so I can reserve camping space or for more details.
SCROTM SabMag/COG - Rally Over the Mountains August 12th-15th Red Lodge, Montana
Ride the Beartooth pass, crossing from the Big Skys of Montana into the amazing views of Wyoming. Come meet people from two groups, for this rally is a first of its kind, combining people from both the Sabre Magna Group and the Concours Owners Group. Visit wonderful locations and see some of the most beautiful country there is without a coastal view. Ride the twisties at 11,000 feet and enjoy meeting new people all with a common bond to motorcycling. Ride loops will consist of everything from a nice day ride, 300 or so miles, to a nice morning or afternoon ride of about 100 miles. See our Ride Info page, http://salsbury.home.bresnan.net/rally/, for more detailed info on suggested rides.
Our Gathering point is going to be Red Lodge, MT. Hotels and camping are in abundance, check our Lodging links for information. We will try to do a group rate at a hotel if we have enough interest. Food and Beverage choices are also in great supply with restaurants in every price range. A BBQ style get together will be planned for Saturday night. I hope that all will attend so that we have a chance to get to know you all better.
Rally headquarter will be somewhere in Redlodge. Ride information will be available as will suggestions for local area visits. Most of this information can be found on the web site.
Please feel free to contact via email or phone if you have any questions and we will do our best to answer your questions. Call us for phone and snail mail info.

CANCELLED - SMEGMA Reloaded! - Oct. 1-3, 2004
The Subject line pretty much says it all, mark yer calendars and start preparing yer plans to attend the greatest 3 day event ever witnessed in my backyard.
Some of you newbs are prolly wonderin' - "SMEGMA, what the hell is that dang deal?" SMEGMA = SabMag East, Greater Mid-Atlantic. It's the pilgrimage to the belly of the Beast that is required of all SabMag acolytes at least once in their life. It is hosted by Richard Wainwright and his lovely wife, Patty, and is open to one and all on this list, and yer non-SabMag ryding buds are welcome, too.
The event is held at Richard's home in beautiful and traffic-congested Bethesda, MD. Fortunately, there *are* some pretty cool roads within a 1/2 hour's ride, so not to worry on that point.
If you've never been to our nation's capital (the aforementioned Beast), this is a good excuse to come on out and see the sights, downtown DC is only 10 mi. from the Wainwright front door.
Most attendees end up camping, and there is limited space indoors - usually reserved for those paying the biggest bribes. There is already a tentative reservation from one Left Coaster who will remain nameless for now, he definitely gets an indoor slot if he shows.
I am planning on having the dude with the portable Dyno show up, it was quite a sight last time with bikes lined up 15 deep ready to make their runs.
As always, there will be bench-riding and bullshitting sessions, wet t-shirt contests, plenty of good food, and Russell's Evil Swill to liven things up a bit.
Be there, or we'll talk about ya 'round the campfire - which is being built in Rooster's backyard this time...
Richard can be reached at Richard Wainwright. A web page and link will be available soon.
GurrlySME - October 22-24, 2004 - New Matamoras, Ohio
Okay 'Maggettes. It's time to cut loose. Maggots? It's time to
give your better (female) half a weekend off. It's time for you to
watch the kids.
It's the GurrlySME...SE Ohio!!
Weekend of 10/22 - 24.
I want to invite all of SabMaggettes to meet at the Aldeco in New
Matamoras, Ohio, for a gurrlySME.
In honor of the ultimate Gurrl, Katherine Becker, this will be an
Unorganized Ride. Show up, ride or don't ride, but plan on spending
Saturday night with the gurrls.
Contact Janine or Ann if
you need any more details. There's not much more to know. Just show
up, get a room a the Aldeco (740.865.3426 / cash only) or camp at
Leith Run, and then ride.... or not.
Saturday night will be the ultimate chick fest at the Aldeco. We'll
make it up as we go along. BYOB and just pass it on.
