SME 19.9 Spring Shakedown, Southern Style - April 16-18, 2015

Come one, come all, and shake out the cobwebs of winter at a Spring Shakedown SME in Tellico Plains, TN, hosted by Jack & Lori Hunt. Visit the Tail of the Dragon, the Cherohala Skyway, and a host of local roads and let your tires revel in waking up for the first of many rides of the 2015 season.

Join us for a full country breakfast on Saturday morning, and a dinner on Saturday night with a yet-to-be-determined menue. You're on your own the rest of the time, and there is usually a semi-organized raid of a local restaurant for breakfast on Sunday morning for those inclined to do.

SME 20.0 The Lafayette Hotel, Marietta, Ohio - June, 2015

21 22 23 24 25 26 27

Mark your calendars. The twentieth annual SabMag East event, the old Burr Oak SME, will be taking place in June at the Lafayette Hotel in beautiful downtown Marietta, Ohio.

The Lafayette Hotel
101 Front Street
Marietta, OH 45750

There is a block of 24 rooms reserved for arrival on the evening of Thursday June 5 and departing on Sunday morning, June 8.

Room types and discounted group rates (out of date):
One double bed: $63
Two twin beds: $73
One queen bed: $83

Assorted fancier rooms for higher dollars. None have two beds but some have fold-out couches. There is a two-night minimum reservation.

The number to call to reserve is (740) 373-5522 or (800) 331-9336. Mention Sabmag to get into our room block and get the discount. If the room type you want isn't in the room block, but is available anyway, take it - the hotel is small and no room will be far away. If you reserve a room outside the room block, let me know, so I can get it added to our tally, and try to get you the group rates wherever you end up.

There are two restaurants on site. The Gun Room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the lounge serves lunch, dinner and drinks. Sunday brunch buffet is $9.95 until 11am, $10.95 after 11am, or you can order off the menu for about what you'd pay for comparable stuff at Bob Evans. There are some brewpubs and restaurants within easy walking distance, but mostly they're upscale - more maggot-priced eateries are a short ride away.

The hotel website is at www.lafayettehotel.com. It's currently just a placeholder, but that's an improvement over the annoying music and broken flash links they had up there a month ago. Perhaps they are planning to make it useful soon.

SMEAC 1.0 July 31-Aug 2 Tannersville, NY

Central to many right coasters and perfect for mid summer rides is an area many occasional ride but generally overlook as SME material..... are the Adirondack and Catskill mountains of New York. This year were looking to change that by hosting SMEAC 1.0 in Tannersville, NY. Pretty much central from Maine, the Carolinas and Ohio, with numerous ride options to/from.... We found a 4 bedroom house in town who's owner is crazy... Errr... Inclined.... To rent for the weekend. Plenty of enclosed deck, porch, yard and driveway for our needs. A fully equipped kitchen inside and fire pit outside with easy walk to town center having its share of taverns and food trough options.

This is a Major ski area (Hunter Mountain) and anybody that's ridden the Catskills knows, there are many great biking routes in nearly all directions.

As this is my suggestion this year, I volunteer to coordinate the basics. We're going to pass the hat to cover rental but would suggest people plan on $25 pp per night regardless of where you flop. Bless her heart, Debbie has agreed to send/bring down convenience type casserole style breakfast (taking the que from ZimLinda) and dinners most likely loaded ziti like, Friday (d), Sat (b & d) and Sun (b). We ask that people bring something to pass (there is a grocery store across the street).

Bedroom assignments are generally first come, first serve but real need should dictate priority.

We will do the typical roll call as we near July but based on initial interest, this looks like it might be well attended!

Questions or requests? It's only a few hours from me ....

Marietta Sternwheel Festival, Sept 11, 12

Do you like fireworks? Then you've GOTTA see THESE! I don't even like fireworks, and *I'm* impressed by the demonstration this festival puts on. And best of all, it's FREE! Come down Friday night and hang out with maggots, spend the day Saturday riding around the best roads east of the Mississippi, then attend the fireworks Saturday night in downtown Marietta.

Typically maggots stay at either the Aldeco or St. Mary's motels (New Matamoras, OH and St. Mary's, WV, respectively) or you el cheapos can grab grass for your tent at the Leith Run recreation area, about 10 miles south of the Aldeco, on SR 7 in Ohio. No matter how you play it, the game plan is always to meet up in downtown Marietta for dinner Saturday night, then head for the festival. Ambitious maggots often hang out in the area Sunday morning and ride some more.

Contact David Ryder for more info, or for a cell number to use to meet up.

SME Leaf Peep 9.0 - October, 2015 - Tellico Plains, TN

Help us wind down our 9th season in style! Typical Tellico SME events unfold - eat, ride, tell lies, that kind of thing. Okay, so the fall colors won't quite be at their peak, but there will be colors in the mountains, and do we really have to have an excuse to get together, eat, tell lies, and ride?.... I didn't think so, either...

We'll have a huge breakfast spread on Saturday and dinner on Saturday night. You're on your own for lunch because, quite frankly, most of you will be out riding anyway.

Lots of tent camping, limited cabin space. The cabins are styled after the KOA Kamping Kabins, which means that they have heat & a/c, but no private restrooms. There is a very nice showerhouse for all bathing needs.
