SME 21.9 Spring Shakedown, Southern Style - April 14-17, 2016
Come one, come all, and shake out the cobwebs of winter at a Spring Shakedown SME in Tellico Plains, TN, hosted by Jack & Lori Hunt. Visit the Tail of the Dragon, the Cherohala Skyway, and a host of local roads and let your tires revel in waking up for the first of many rides of the 2016 season. Join us for a full country breakfast on Saturday morning, and a dinner on Saturday night with a yet-to-be-determined menue. You're on your own the rest of the time, and there is usually a semi-organized raid of a local restaurant for breakfast on Sunday morning for those inclined to do. Mark your calendars. The twenty second annual SabMag East event, the old Burr Oak SME, will be taking place in June at the Lafayette Hotel in beautiful downtown Marietta, Ohio.
The Lafayette Hotel 101 Front Street Marietta, OH 45750 There is a block of rooms reserved for arrival on the evening of Thursday June 9 and departing on Sunday morning, June 12. Room types and discounted group rates (out of date): One double bed: $63 Two twin beds: $73 One queen bed: $83 Assorted fancier rooms for higher dollars. None have two beds but some have fold-out couches. There is a two-night minimum reservation. The number to call to reserve is (740) 373-5522 or (800) 331-9336. Mention Sabmag to get into our room block and get the discount. If the room type you want isn't in the room block, but is available anyway, take it - the hotel is small and no room will be far away. If you reserve a room outside the room block, let me know, so I can get it added to our tally, and try to get you the group rates wherever you end up. There are two restaurants on site. The Gun Room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the lounge serves lunch, dinner and drinks. Sunday brunch buffet is $9.95 until 11am, $10.95 after 11am, or you can order off the menu for about what you'd pay for comparable stuff at Bob Evans. There are some brewpubs and restaurants within easy walking distance, but mostly they're upscale - more maggot-priced eateries are a short ride away. The hotel website is at www.lafayettehotel.com. It's currently just a placeholder, but that's an improvement over the annoying music and broken flash links they had up there a month ago. Suggested route; Barkersville > Edinburg > Northville > Benson > Caroga Lake > Piseco Lake > Forest port > Old Forge > Eagle Bay > Inlet > Raquette Lake > Indian Lake > Speculator > Northville > Broad Albin Saturday - general intent is the Eastern ADK. Suggested route; Barkersville > Fish House > Lake Luzerne-Hadley > Lake George > Ticonderoga > Elizabethtown > Lake Placid > Saranac > Tupper Lake > Newcomb > North Creek > Northville > split the Sacandaga back to Barkersville A million variations to consider of course for individual preferances. For those not inclined in long rides or riding at all.... Saratoga (Lake, race track, town, park or Battlefield) is 20 minutes east and there is a car friendly 45 minute route to Lake George. We are also 10 min from the Sacandaga for swimming/boating and 15 minutes from white water rafting (many companies), horse back riding, etc. Dinner provided Thu - Sat. Breakfast provided Fri -Sun. Bring a dish to pass, beer or wine to consume. We have more flat tent space than there will be tents or trailers. We have 3 queen and 2 single beds in 3 different rooms plus various other nooks/crannies for inflatables or cots of which we also have a few. Bike parking in the front driveway, car and trailer parking on its left side and tenting on the right front lawn. Everything else will be set up in the rear yard and driveway. Bonfire area (could bring a chair), garage, gameroom, spa, etc. I know it's a SME but.... we either have a band or a band or not (long story) for Saturday night. A commercial campground within 5 minutes has cabins and hookups. Ref. Pop's Lake Campground in Galway, NY. Tons of motels around depending how far you want to drive as none are under 20 minutes. We will have Porta pots and two outside showers setup to supplement our bathrooms. We are putting this out as a family friendly event as there we are in the vacation time of year and region of New York State. Besides... this has the makings of a great party!
